Jason Tinsley set to take over NSU men's basketball program

TAHLEQUAH — Jack Dobbins handed Northeastern State basketball over to Ken Hayes. Larry Gipson later took over for Hayes.

Those three were the faces of NSU basketball for more than half a century.

Now it's Jason Tinsley's turn to take over.

Tinsley is set to leave Louisiana College, where he's coached women's basketball for the past four seasons. At the Division III institution, Tinsley went 89-25.

"It is an honor for me to be chosen to lead this program with its rich basketball tradition," Tinsley said in a statement released by NSU. "My goal is to live up to the standard established by coaches Jack Dobbins, Ken Hayes and Larry Gipson."

Tinsley's last coaching experience in men's basketball was at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he coached from 2003-2008. He also served as the head coach at Bossier Parish Community College from 1999 to 2002.

Tinsley's career collegiate coaching record is 162-152.
