Claremore police have confirmed the route to be taken Thursday morning when the body of fallen soldier Jon Townsend is brought into Claremore.
According to information updated Wednesday afternoon, the body of soldier Jon Townsend will arrive at Tulsa International Airport at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning, and will be transported into Claremore from south Highway 66, entering town around 11 a.m.
From South Highway 66, the procession with Townsend’s body will then head east on SH20 towards Rice Funeral Service, where he will be taken and remain until services the following morning.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, with family to received visitors from 6-8 p.m. at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore.
Memorial services are 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Claremore, after which, he will be buried with military honors at Lone Chapel Cemetery in Adair.
Townsend was among four American soldiers who died Sunday, Sept. 16 in Afghanistan’s southern Zabul province.
His unit took fire from an Afghan police officer.
Townsend was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
