SAC WOMEN'S BB: Froese joins 1,000-point club in Lady 'Cats win

CLAREMORE — Senior Logan Froese tallied her 1,000th career point as the Rogers State women’s basketball team stayed unbeaten in Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 79-70 win over Mid-America Christian at the Claremore Expo on Saturday afternoon.

Froese, a Claremore, Okla. native, registered a season-high 18 points while pulling in 10 rebounds to lead the Cats to victory. She has 1,001 points and counting, ranking second in the all-time record book in scoring behind Hunter Peterson (2007-2011), who was the inaugural member of the club and finished her career with 1,132 points.

The Hillcats opened the game with a 9-2 advantage but the Lady Evangels quickly knotted the score with an 8-1 run. RSU clung to a single digit lead for most of the half but the teams traded buckets for the final six minutes of the stanza, going into the locker room at the break tied, 37-37.

RSU jumped out to its first double digit lead of the night with a 14-2 spurt to start the second half and held the lead the rest of the way. Adrianna Leatherbury started the run with a bucket in the paint and Clarissa Cannon capped it off with a rebound and a put-back. MACU cut the deficit to five points with 3:07 remaining in the game with a trey by Parris Price but the Hillcats fought off the Lady Evangels with a 5-0 run to give RSU a 10-point cushion in the final minute of play.

Froese’s double-double was her second on the season. Leah Smith and Ariani Silva joined her in double digits scoring. Smith finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and a career-high four steals while Silva registered 11 points. The Hillcats dominated the boards, out-rebounding MACU 41-29.
