Paul Bickford killed in crash near Locust Grove

CLAREMORE — Claremore businessman, Rotarian, community civic leader, father, and husband Paul Bickford was killed Friday in a wreck near Locust Grove, authorities said.

According to the report of OHP Trooper Erick J. Roberts, Bickford was driving his 2001 Ford Econoline van northbound on SH82, 2.5 miles south of Locust Grove in Mayes County just after 5 p.m. Friday, April 12.

For unknown reasons, Bickford’s vehicle went to the left of center and struck a second vehicle, a 2013 Chevy Sonic, driven by Harold Proctor of Stillwell.

Bickford’s vehicle then left the roadway to the left, where it struck a guardrail and tree before coming to a rest, according to reports.

Bickford was pinned in his vehicle for about 40 minutes before he was freed by the Locust Grove Fire Department. He expired at the scene from massive injuries.

Proctor was not injured.

More information will appear in the print edition of the Claremore Daily Progress.
