REVISED: Christ Presbyterian Church fallen by blaze

CLAREMORE —

Firefighters battled a heavy fire Saturday night at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 310 N. Weenonah Ave. in Claremore.

Reports of the fire were received around 10 p.m.

No determination has been made as to how the fire began. No one was injured in the fire.

Firefighers remained at the scene of the former Methodist church on Sunday to make sure no flames returned.

As of 12:30 a.m., crews were extinguishing flames on the second story of the historic building. A ladder truck was used to to spray above the flames to prevent any embers from catching surrounding homes on fire.

The top level and most of the lower level of the building were destroyed. Claremore Fire received assistance from nearby fire departments, including Tri-District, Limestone, Foyil, Chelsea, Pryor and Tiawah Fire.

Claremore police and Rogers County deputies keep a perimeter Sunday evening while firefighters fought the blaze.
