CLAREMORE — One down ... four to go.
The No. 2-ranked Claremore Lady Zebras dominated Tahlequah and ran their winning streak to 11-straight Tuesday evening following their 10-0 win over the Lady Tigers in the first round of the Class 5A Girls Soccer Playoffs at Lantow Field.
With the win, the Lady Zebras improved to 11-1 and advanced to the second round to face the winner of Pryor and Cascia Hall on Friday at Lantow Field.
Claremore's offense was unstoppable early as the Lady Zebras built a 5-0 lead with 24 minutes left in the first half.
Taylor Williams got things rolling with an assisted goal from senior midfielder Katelin Teter to make it 1-0. Seconds later, junior forward Paige Noe leaped over a Tahlequah defender, scooted down the left sideline and converted the assist from Teter to extend the margin to 2-0.
Then, on a corner kick from right flag, Williams caromed her shot off the Tahlequah goalkeeper for the unassisted goal that increased Claremore's lead to 3-0.
Claremore's defense — sparked by the senior aggression of Jentry Cruce and Anna McGuire — kept Tahlequah from crossing the 50-yard line; while also setting up another scoring opportunity for the Lady Zebra offense.
Teter blasted a 25-yard shot off the cross field pass from freshman forward Olivia Maulsby to put Claremore up 4-0.
The explosive Claremore offense made it 5-0 when Maulsby headed in an assist from Williams, who sent the pass over the Tahlequah defense from the left sideline.
All of Claremore's scoring was done before the 20-minute mark of the opening half.
Right before halftime, with most of the starters resting, Claremore freshman forward Carrie Hammack drilled a 10-yard shot from the assist of Teter to cap the first half with the Lady Zebras leading 6-0.
Adding to Claremore's defensive effort was the play of sophomore sweeper Chandler Payne and freshmen Macy Green and Skylar Muncy.
