Catoosa Council calls meeting to discuss city manager's employment

CATOOSA —

The Catoosa City Council has slated a special meeting today to discuss the future employment of City Manager Leroy Alsup. Council posted an agenda for the meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Councilors will meet at 4:30 p.m. with an executive session “for the purpose of discussing the employment, including, but not limited to, the job performance of Leroy Alsup...,” according to the agenda.

The agenda also outlines possible action if Alsup is suspended which includes appointed an acting city manager.

Ward 6 Councilor Russ White said he was unaware of any problems with the city manager.

“This has come out of no where,” White said.

Alsup was hired as Catoosa’s first city manager in 2011 after voters approved a change from a strong mayor form of government to a city manager form of government.

He had spent seven years as administrator for Cowley County, Kan. prior to coming to Catoosa.

Alsup holds a masters degrees in geography/urban planning from Miami (Ohio) University, public administration from the University of Kansas and business administration from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.

Catoosa is the second area community which has addressed the employment of their city manager.  On Friday, the Owasso City Council placed City Manager Rodney Ray on administrative leave while Mayor Doug Bonebrake does an internal investigation about the city manager’s actions.

Warren Lehr was appointed Owasso's acting city manager.
