Boating accident: 1 drowns, 1 rescued

CLAREMORE —

A boating accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old man Thursday at Claremore Lake.

Two boaters were fishing when their boat malfunctioned and began to spin out of control, according to Claremore police, throwing them into the water.
One man was rescued by a near-by boater and transported to Hillcrest-Claremore, where he was treated for possible hypothermia. He is in stable condition.
The other boater’s body  was found by rescue workers late Thursday afternoon. He had drowned.
Officials closed the lake and park while search and rescue operations were conducted. The rescue team towe the boat to shore.
Identities of the two boaters has not been released.
Claremore police and Northwest Fire Department conducted the search and rescue. The Grand River Dam Authority Rescue Team and helicopter also assisted.
