The Pits — new location, new menu
The Pits restaurant has only moved two blocks, but has more than doubled their capacity and their menu. Renown for their famous barbeque, the local restaurant has expanded the menu to include home-cooked food and “things on a bun,” as the menu says.
The Pits has been a staple in Claremore BBQ since they opened their doors 14 years ago.
Restaurant owner Buddy Robertson isn’t new to the restaurant business. Before opening the Claremore restaurant in 1994, Robertson traveled the country opening restaurants for chains such as the Black-eyed Pea and Po’ Folks.
“I’ve always enjoyed the restaurant business. I like to make people smile and serve them good food,” he said.
After traveling for so long, Buddy thought it was high time he settled down back home. And that home is Claremore.
“Claremore has always been my home and I am so glad to be here for good,” Robertson said.
The Pits has been known for great barbecue but since they have more room now, they’ve expanded their menu to include dishes such as pot roast, turkey and dressing and of course, homestyle hamburgers, with all the fixin’s. Buddy has been successful with these types of menu items through his past restaurant experiences Since upgrading to a 2,500-square-foot facility, he can now offer a new expanded menu. His daily specials include: Monday – burger; Tuesday – beans and cornbread, Wednesday - spaghetti, Thursday – pot roastm Friday – turkey and dressing
The barbecue menu hasn’t changed.
Robertson can still be found smoking fresh meats almost every day of the week. The everyday All You Can Eat chopped beef with two sides is still available. Along with their chopped beef, they have smoked bologna, smoked sausage, pulled pork and smoked brisket. The Pits also does catering. From pot roast to barbeque, they can cater it all.
Robertson hired his restaurant manager Lyslie Lewellen when he opened 14 years ago. She is still with him and according to him, she’s the only asset he can’t depreciate anymore.
“I love working here at The Pits. It’s like a second family to me,” said Lewellen
The Grand Re-Opening Ribbon Cutting was last week.
The new location is approximately two blocks north of the old location on J.M. Davis Boulevard and is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Robertson is also a city councilman for Ward III for the City of Claremore.
