Annual Celebrity Wait-Night benefits children
By REBECCA HATTA WAY
With the heat index hovering around the 100-degree mark, the last thing anyone wants to do is cook. Tri-County CASA has a simple solution that also helps vulnerable children in our community.
On Friday, the organization will host its annual Celebrity Wait-Night fundraiser at Claremore Pizza Hut. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., patrons will receive special treatment from Claremore-area celebrity waiters. At the end of the evening, Pizza Hut will contribute 15 percent of the day’s sales to Tri-County CASA for its volunteer advocacy work in the Rogers County juvenile courts.
“CASA’s Celebrity Wait-Night is what I like to call a two-for-one deal: great food for a great cause,” said Angela Henderson, CASA’s Program Director.
Tri-County CASA is a non-profit agency that recruits and trains volunteers to speak for the best interests of abused or neglected children involved in the juvenile court system of Rogers, Mayes, and Craig counties. Judges assign these volunteers to serve as “court-appointed special advocates” or CASAs. They provide an extra set of eyes and ears to the court as judges make decisions about each child’s future.
The faces of the celebrity waiters will be familiar to Rogers County residents. They include Rep. Tad Jones, Police Chief Mickey Perry, Sheriff Jerry Prather, District Attorney Gene Haynes, County Commissioners Mike Helm, Kirt Thacker, and Dan DeLozier, County Clerk Peggy Armstrong, County Treasurer Melissa Anderson, County Court Clerk Candy Czapansky, City Clerk Nan Pope, and a host of others.
“Our celebrity waiters will be accepting tips for their work Friday evening and will generously donate those funds to the CASA program,” Henderson said.
To learn more about Tri-County CASA or for more information about how to volunteer as an advocate, contact the CASA Office at 343-1515.
