Judge Erin Oquin was the featured speaker this month at the regular meeting of the Inola Chamber of Commerce.

Judge Oquin spoke about the “dire” need Rogers County has for a new courthouse and of the feasibility studies that have been made re restoring the present one and building a new facility.

“The space, security, and mold are just a few of the reasons that lobbying for a new courthouse has been so important,” she said.

Judge Oquin, a a native of Inola, asked her friends and neighbors to get out and support this cause, which will be voted on in December 2009.

Chamber members discussed the upcoming Christmas Parade for Inola, which will be the first Sunday afternoon in December (the 6th), and the theme will be “Hometown Holiday.”

It was voted to have Supt. Holbrook and his family as the Parade Marshals.

There will be three prizes to the most creative holiday floats — 1st prize $100; 2nd prize $50; and 3rd prize $25.

It has been confirmed that the Shriners will again be in Inola for the Christmas Parade.

Jacob Carter was at the meeting to represent the Parade Committee and said they needed volunteers to help with the crowd the day of the parade.

No sign-ups will be necessary as parade participants should just line up at the high school the day of the parade.

Rosalie Griffith, Banquet Chairman, said the tentative date for the Chamber Banquet is Feb. 6, but she was waiting to hear back from the speaker she had chosen to confirm this date. She will be getting bids from various Inola caterers for the food.

Ronda Cooksey reported she had distributed Santa Cash coupons to four different businesses and was attempting to get more to participate. Coupons are given for both purchases and for service.

Lee Baker reported on the Map and said she could use help in contacting purchasers for the ads and follow up.

The lunch was purchased from the Inola Senior Citizens, a United Way agency, who had prepared turkey and dressing dinners and was selling them in their efforts to raise money for United Way.
