Holiday Inn Express breaks ground

Construction is beginning on another of Claremore’s three new hotels, as city and community leaders joined Tulsa-based Promise Hotels and The Ross Group to break ground Wednesday on an 80-room Holiday Inn Express and conference center located at 1400 W. Country Club Lane.
The hotel will be an adaptive reuse project of the former Thunder Bowl. The design will feature Holiday Inn Express’ newest prototype unveiled by InterContinental Hotels Group earlier this year.
The 15,000 sq. ft. conference center will match the hotel’s modern design and feature nearly 8,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, with the banquet hall accommodating up to 420 people.
It is the fifth joint-venture project by Promise Hotels and The Ross Group. Others include the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Tulsa, Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Tulsa, Holiday Inn Express Downtown Tulsa and Holiday Inn Express Tahlequah.
Promise Hotels President and CEO Paresh “Pete” Patel said that Claremore was an “excellent choice” for their next project because of the community’s growth.
“The site is located right off of SH66, close to retail and a movie theater, so there is a high convenience aspect for guests,” Patel said. “We have been planning this really about a year. We bought the Comfort Inn six years ago and wanted to build a second hotel here. The city has said it’s much needed. We believe this will meet the needs of the needs of the community. Right now, other cities have conference centers and Claremore is losing business to them.”
Patel said they hope to open in March 2015.
Claremore City Manager Jim Thomas said he appreciates the investment of capital and commitment Promise Hotels is making in Claremore.
“This is a perfect example of government and business coming together in a collaborative spirit,” Thomas said. “The conference center is an added bonus and will bring trade shows and professional associations to our city.”
