OKLAHOMA CITY —
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission is considering whether telecommunications company can keep some of their records secret.
The three-member commission will meet Thursday to consider taking action in a case involving the Oklahoma Open Records Act.
Officials say the commission’s public utilities division uses information in the annual reports of telephone companies to review which companies are doing business in a particular exchange and determine the public utility assessment fee for each company. Officials say they want to comply with the act while providing the protections needed to sustain a competitive telecommunications market in the state.
Telephone carriers have suggested that $50 million be added to the Oklahoma Universal Service Fund and that the state’s High Cost Fund be eliminated. State telephone providers pay into both funds.
