Balkman to be sworn in Friday

NORMAN — Cleveland County’s newest district judge will be sworn into office at 2 p.m. Friday.

Thad Balkman will take the oath of office from Judge Charles Johnson of the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. The ceremony will take place in the second-floor courtroom on the east side of the courthouse.

A reception hosted by the Cleveland County Bar Association will follow the afternoon ceremony.

Balkman, an attorney and former state legislator, was appointed to the position vacated by retiring Judge Tom Lucas. Balkman will be on the ballot in the next election cycle.
