The Hammett House in Claremore has been named one of AAA’s Top 10 Favorite Restaurants Serving Up a Little Taste of Home.
Inspectors at AAA dine at hundreds of restaurants across the country every year ,naming not only the Top 10 but also featuring 70 restaurants across the United States and Canada as part of their series on “comfort foods.”
AAA offers the only rating program that conducts comprehensive, on-site professional hotel and restaurant evaluations guided by member priorities, according to their website. AAA describes the Hammett House, as comfortable and relaxing with a country feel.
“Country fried steak is hand-breaded and so tender you can cut it with a fork. It’s served with the gravy underneath the steak, which allows you to manage the amount of gravy you get with each bite.”
Inspectors also recommend the double crust apple pie, served in a warm skillet a la mode with a brandy butter sauce.
All pies are baked fresh daily and available by the slice or whole.
The Hammett House serves a variety of home cooked meals.
Bill Biard, owner of the restaurant, recently won first prize at Wingapalooza in Tulsa.
Biard’s crew won with their spicy barbeque wings, which featured a “hotter than blue blazes” special sauce containing ghost peppers.
Although the restaurant is not known for their chicken wings, they are known for their pampered fried chicken.
In mid-February, the restaurant will start serving this award-winning appetizer that will spice up any meal.
Other restaurants in the Top 10 are Lou’s Food Bar, Denver, Colo.; Salt Lick Bar-B-Q, Driftwood and Round Rock, Texas; Lili’s Bistro on Magnolia, Fort Worth, Texas; American Flatbread, Burlington, Va.; Big Pink, Miami Beach, Fla.,; Bryce Canyon Pines, Bryce Canyon City, Utah; Georgia Brown’s, Washington, D.C.; The Meatball Shop, New York, N.Y., and The Moose Café, Asheville, N.C.
