CLAREMORE — Nichole Potter, of Claremore,  is no stranger when it comes to wearing many hats. Wife, mother, volunteer in her community, and fitness instructor are just a few of those she wears daily.

But one of the hats Potter wears is actually a tiara, as she is the reigning Mrs. Claremore.

This weekend, Potter is hoping to add another “hat” when she competes at the state level for the title of Mrs. Oklahoma.

The pageant, which will be Saturday at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie, is the official state preliminary competition for Mrs. America, celebrating the achievements, poise and personality of Oklahoma’s accomplished married women.

“I will be competing on the platform of empowering women through lifestyle and fitness,” Potter said.

“Personally, I graduated from Northeastern State University with my B.A. in Science and Dietetics, and my whole life has been focused on my family and my fitness — that’s what I live and breathe.”

Potter is a certified fitness instructor and a Team Beachbody Coach, through which, she teaches a PiYo which is a combination of Pilates and yoga, as well as Turbo Kick at K& Company here in Claremore.

“I have clients I train and ladies who come to my classes — all of whom I try to instill with confidence in themselves through fitness and lifestyle choices,” she said. “The reason why I’m so passionate about this is that I lost a lot of weight myself after high school, which I did not by dieting, but by changing my lifestyle — they key to successful weight loss isn’t so much about dieting, it’s about changing your habits, about how you live your life.”

Helping motivate Potter is her four-year-old daughter, Mekentzi.

“I want my little girl to grow up with confidence in herself, and not to think she has to measure up to someone else’s standards or by what a scale tells her,” she said.

“She already lives a healthy lifestyle — eating sensibly and staying active — and I want her to grow up knowing that she doesn’t have to worry about what she looks like so much as how she feels about herself on the inside.”

Potter also has another child, Eli, 16 months old, with husband of seven years, Brian, who owns Tree-Line Tree Service of Claremore.

Potter said she’s extremely appreciative of her supporters and sponsors, who include her husband’s business, the District on Main, Claremore Tire, Terry Washburn Agency, Dr. Darryl Reed, RCB Bank, the Pink House, and Safenet, where she volunteers.

Depending on how Saturday’s competition goes, Potter may advance to the national competition at the Mrs. America Beauty Pageant this August in Arizona.

“I’m honored to have been chosen to represent Claremore at the state level in Guthrie, and I’d be even more honored to do so at the national level for our state, but my real goal is to encourage women everywhere to have better lives through the confidence that comes with healthy choices in fitness and lifestyle.”
