On a Mission

Destiny Life members raise funds for mission trip to Uganda

CLAREMORE —

A group of Destiny Life Church members hosted a garage sale beginning Thursday to raise money for a mission trip to Jinja, Uganda.
While in Jinja, the group will assist with the city’s aids clinics for two weeks, while teaching a vacation bible school for children.
“(Destiny Life) had a team go last year, and they made a tremendous impact,” said member Misty Stephens. “The Jinja people are so loving and very receptive to what we’re doing.”
Stephens said the cost for one person to make the round trip to Uganda costs about $4,500. Members are planning to depart for Africa on July 2 and will stay until July 17.
The garage sale continued through Saturday, and other fundraisers will follow, said Stephens.
Private donations for the Uganda mission trip can be sent to Destiny Life Church, 1055 West Blue Starr Drive, Claremore, OK 74017.
The Republic of Uganda is located in the east central region of Africa. Since 2009, infection rates of HIV/Aids in the region have risen steadily from 124,000 infected to 145,000 in 2011, according to the National HIV Indicator Survey.
