Claremore Kennel Club hosts annual dog show

CLAREMORE — More than 150 dog handlers from across the country competed in the AKC Sanctioned Dog Iron Classic Dog Show Saturday and Sunday at the Claremore Expo Center.

The annual conformation show, hosted by the Claremore Kennel Club (CKC), included nearly 1,000 dogs of all different breeds, judged to the standard of the American Kennel Club.
Dog handlers from amateur to professional, competed for nationally-ranked points. Dogs were judged and earned points on structure, temper and showmanship.
The CKC was established in 1982 and hosted their first licensed show in 1997.
“We have about 30 members and all of us enjoy the sport and competing against each other,” said CKC President Georgia Shipley.
During the competition, vendors from all over, lined the expo floors selling everything from dog treats to training videos.
“It seems our vendors are satisfied with the turnout. Each year they keep coming back,” said Shipley. “We are pleased to have them and I think they enjoy what we have to offer.”
Shipley said entries for the event have increased almost every year.
“We love being able to use the facility and the expo center’s management is wonderful.”
The CKC offers training and obedience classes and holds meetings every third Thursday of each month.
