Foster families needed in Rogers County

CLAREMORE —

Rogers County has more children that need foster families than there are homes available.
In a new arrangement with Oklahoma’s Department of Human Services, TFI Family Connections will now work to recruit and retain foster families.
In Rogers County, there are 84 children while there are only 12 foster families, according to Jason Cecil of TFI.
His organization was awarded a contract by DHS last week and will service the entire state of Oklahoma with the exception of the Oklahoma City area.
TFI will work alongside OKDHS in the recruitment and retention of foster care families —  also called Bridge Resource Families.
As a partner with OKDHS, TFI will help support families as they interact with OKDHS throughout the foster care approval process, during placement and care of children in their homes, and help provide an understanding of the child welfare system.
“We are very excited to join OKDHS to recruit for Bridge Resource Homes.  A large number of children in OKDHS custody are placed in shelter care, even as young as 5 and 6 years of age.  These children should have a safe family home to live in,” said Rachelle Roosevelt, TFI’s Vice President, Foster Care and Program Development.
“We are committed to help find these families, and to provide a high level of support to them so children can be in a family home.”
With one office already in Bartlesville, TFI is also a Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) provider.
TFC is a residential behavioral management service provided in foster home settings serving children  ages 3 to 18 with special psychological, social, behavioral and emotional needs.
With the addition of the foster care recruitment contracts, TFI will open three additional offices and increase staff as they begin providing services.
“Our mission is ‘Devoted to the Strength of Family’ and we firmly believe that foster families who provide love, stability and guidance for a child in need of care will and do change a life for the good,” shared Debra Ostroe, TFI‘s Director, Oklahoma Foster Care.   TFI Family Connections brings both experience and compassion to support the children and families in our communities, a need that is ever growing.
