Rice Funeral Service staff members are readying for their annual Tree of Remembrance Service.
Scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8, this annual service allows persons who have lost someone recently or in the past to remember and celebrate their life.
Rice started this yearly tribute more than 20 years ago as a means for friends and family members to honor a loved one’s memory, in an atmosphere of shared loss, surrounded by others who also have suffered the loss of a loved one, and be comforted in their remembrance.
During the service, a tree will be decorated with angel ornaments inscribed with the name of deceased loved ones. Each family hangs their ornament and is allowed time to speak of their lost loved ones. Attendees wishing for Rice to prepare a personalized angel ornament should contact the funeral home in advance to let them know they will be in attendance and the name of the person to be honored during this year’s service.
The evening also will include musical selections by Ray Teakell of First Christian Church.
For several years, Rice has worked with Toys for Tots to collect toys for children in need. Persons wishing to participate may bring an unwrapped toy to the remembrance service, to be placed beneath the tree and later delivered to the Community Toy Room.
For more information or to reserve a commemorative angel ornament in honor of a loved one, contact Rice Funeral Service at (918) 341-0376.
