Station to air “UHF,” featured cast members live in-studio

RSU Public TV’s “UHF25” celebration continues this weekend, with a special “UHF”-themed pledge drive Saturday night.
Beginning at 7 p.m., RSU Public TV will air the 1989 Weird Al Yankovic movie “UHF,” with several local Tulsa and Tulsa metro cast members and extras from the movie in-studio, answering phones during the pledge drive and recounting their on-set experiences.
“We’re thrilled to be continuing our commemoration of the 25th anniversary of ‘UHF’ this weekend, and we’ve got several surprises in store during the pledge drive — we hope everyone tunes in, enjoys the evening, and makes a pledge,” said Jennifer Sterling, program and membership manager for the station.
“We’ll be presenting very special and unique ‘thank you’ gifts to some of those who make pledges, everything from copies of the poster —created for the movie’s 25th anniversary, personally selected by Mr. Yankovic himself and designed by a graphic designer at RSU — to concert tickets for the ‘Weird Al’ concert later this month at the Brady Theater in Tulsa.”
Sterling, who will co-host the pledge drive with Holly Wall of This Land Press in Tulsa, said that among the special guests to be interviewed during the live segments are Lisa Stefanic, seen prominently in the movie’s “Wheel of Fish” segment, and former RSU professor Eldon Hallum, credited in the movie’s cast on IMDB as “Spatula Husband.”
Person who miss the opportunity to pledge during Saturday night’s drive will get another opportunity on Sunday, when RSU Public TV airs the “Weird Al” concert movie, “Weird Al: The Alpocalypse Tour” on Sunday night. RSU Public TV also will be airing the promos filmed by Yankovic when he was in Claremore on Sept. 24 to speak to communications students and attend the dedication of a supply closet in honor of him, in reference to a scene from the movie “UHF.”
