A large group of local and out-of-town family and friends joined Willa and L.D. Littlefield Saturday afternoon July 8, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, Inola, in celebration of their 50th year of marriage. The celebration was hosted by the couple’s daughter, Sharon, of Tulsa and very special friends, Terry and Kathy Day; Tressa and Tim Berg; and Dr. Mike and Gerri Butler.

In the fall of 1955, the couple were introduced by friends in Tulsa about five months before L.D. was discharged from the Navy. Willa was a payroll clerk for the Tulsa School System. They became engaged the next spring and were married in the home of Inola Methodist Minister, A. J. Shields and wife, Arlene, in Tulsa on July 6, 1956. Attendants were Margaret Warden and Elvin Ford, shortly thereafter to become Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ford.

The Littlefields first lived in Pryor and later moved to Inola where they have lived ever since in the same location, second house. Their first Inola home was destroyed by a tornado. Their first daughter, Sharon, was born in Pryor and they were blessed with a second daughter, Tamara Kay in Inola in 1958. Sharon lives in Tulsa and Tamara Kay is deceased, having died from a brain tumor in 1987.

L. D. was employed by the Air National Guard where he worked until his retirement in 1986. He has been active in Inola civic affairs, serving 20 years on the Inola Volunteer Fire Dept. He was also in the Inola Lions Club, and served on the Inola School Board, City Council, VFW Roundup Club and Booster Club. Presently, he is President of Inola Seniors Center.

Willa was a stay at home mom during the girls’ early years and later worked and retired from Avon in 1996. he belonged to the Inola Home Demonstration Club and helped start the Inola Library. She is still serving as recording secretary of the Inola Library Board. She was a charter member of the Lioness Club and VFW Auxiliary and now belongs to Gamma Pi Chapter of ESA serving as chaplain.

The Littlefields are active in the Inola Baptist Church and contribute their long and happy marriage to their Christian background and sticking with each other through good times and bad.
