Documentary event marks anniversary of Civil War raid

The last Raid at Cabin Creek was 154 years ago on September 19. In recognition of the anniversary of that raid in what in now Northeastern Oklahoma, a documentary produced by former Claremore resident Steve Warren will be showing in the Will Rogers Memorial Theatre on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

“Loco-Focos,” a Civil War Camp Band, will perform authentic Civil War style music at 6:30 p.m. before the documentary showing. Museum doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the 45-minute version of the award-winning Civil War documentary will show at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

“Last Raid a Cabin Creek,” written and produced by Warren, tells of the last Confederate raid into the Indian Nation, planned by Brigadier General Stand Watie and executed by Brigadier General Richard Gano. It ended in the capture of a 300-wagon Union supply train at Cabin Creek.

Warren, a 1978 Claremore graduate, now lives in Florida where he is a multimedia writer-producer for The Christian Broadcasting Network.
