Justus-Tiawah has selected Dawna Watkins as Teacher of the Year for 2011-12.
This is Watkins’ sixth year to teach. She is currently the computer technology teacher and before that was a kindergarten teacher for four years.
“Dawna is very hard working and a great asset to our school,” said Justus-Tiawah Superintendent David Garroutte. “She always goes above and beyond what is expected, and we are truly blessed to have her as a friend and teacher in our school system.”
Watkins said that being a teacher is not a vocation but a chance to inspire and challenge students to become successful members of society where they will make a positive contribution.
Dawna is married to Kelly Watkins and is the mother of triplets, Blake, Kelce and Tyler. She graduated from Sallisaw Public School in 1980 and Northeastern State University in 2005.
She recently received a Master’s of Education degree in Educational Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
In her spare time Watkins loves watching her kids perform in their events, boating and fishing with Kelly and is an avid OU Sooner fan. She is a member of Church on the Move in Tulsa.
