E911: County woos city

Expansion of Claremore PD dispatch under discussion

CLAREMORE — Rogers County Commissioners Kirt Thacker and Dan DeLozier continued discussions Monday involving the participation of the City of Claremore with the new E911 Center.

With the arrival of new city manager Jim Thomas, the discussions may have new life according to the commissioners.
“I am trying to let him [Thomas] get on his feet,” DeLozier said. “I would like to keep the dialog open. I know they have said they are open to the idea.”
The board had been approached about expanding the Claremore Police Department’s existing E911 facility instead of building at the Highway 88 location, according to DeLozier.
It is that discussion that prompted more talks about how the city and county could join together.
“It doesn’t matter where we put the center it will take a building no matter what,” DeLozier said.
The current CPD facility would not be big enough to support the facility, he added.
“Hopefully, we will be able to work with the city in the future, the new city manager is interested; they are interested in talking,” DeLozier said.
Thacker brought forward the topic of site consolidation, but it became clear that it is not feasible at the current location.
“It is my understanding is that they already have a state of the art system,” Thacker said.
“They have the same equipment as we have now,” DeLozier added.
“I am thinking is that we went to the City of Claremore. We bring staff, money everything we have to consolidate,” Thacker said.
“At the beginning that is what we were trying to do, and I don’t think they are totally out,” DeLozier said.
“They have not come out and said they are not interested,” said E911 Administrator Janet Hamilton.
However, the last conversation that Hamilton had dealt with the city’s letter to the county commissioners, she added.
