Inola man shoots son following dispute


Rogers County deputies arrested an Inola man Wednesday morning after he shot his son in the back following a verbal dispute.
Donald Nicewander, 63, of Inola fired a .22 caliber handgun at his son,  Dustin, following a domestic incident at the family’s residence. Donald shares the residence with his son and his wife, Barbara, according to information provided by the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office.
According to reports, Donald retrieved the handgun following the dispute and fired three rounds at Dustin as he attempted to leave the residence. One of the rounds struck Dustin in the back before he fled the residence in his parents’ vehicle, heading to a Tulsa Hospital.
Jerry Smittle, Rogers County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, said Dustin pulled the vehicle over at 193rd East Avenue on Interstate 44 in Catoosa. Deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers arrived at the vehicle before emergency medical transported Dustin to a Tulsa Hospital.
Donald Nicewander was arrested at the residence and charged with shooting with intent to kill.  
He was booked into the Rogers County Jail and is  being held without bond.
