Claremore woman arrested for embezzling from scouts

CLAREMORE —

A Claremore woman was arrested Friday morning for embezzling money from a Claremore Boy Scout Troop.
Rachel Lunsford, 39, was charged in district court before an arrest warrant was issued Thursday, following an investigation by the Claremore Police Department.
According to the affidavit, Troop 238’s committee chairman contacted police after realizing the account had been overdrawn in July.
The affidavit states that Lunsford embezzled more than $16,500 from the account, writing more than two dozen checks from the troop’s account at RCB Bank, dating back to May 2012.
It says Lunsford wrote checks at Walmart and Dollar General, three checks to Sprint and three checks to Verdigris Valley Electric. It also says 23 checks were written for cash.
Lunsford was booked in the Rogers County Jail Thursday morning and shortly after, posted bail in the amount of $2,000.
