CPD adds extra patrols on Halloween

 For Parents and Treaters:
• Know and preplan your children’s  route
• Advise children that they should never enter strangers’ homes
• Instruct children not to stray from their group
• Never invite children into your home without expressed permission from their parent or guardian
• Adult escorts should always carry flashlights
• Keep pets inside your home, or other safe place on Halloween night
• Parents should know what route their children will be taking. Give wrapped homemade treats only to children you know
• All costumes should be made of light-colored, fireproof material
• Report any suspicious or criminal activity to the police
• Turn on your porch light
• Move lit jack-o-lanterns off the porch where kids get bunched up if they are trick-or-treating in groups
• Remove objects from your yard that might present a hazard
• Carry a cell phone
• Slow down. Your excitement and anxiety level will directly affect your children’s behavior and safety consciousness
