People are talking. They are saying: “It took me $85 to fill my tank, this morning.” “I paid nearly $4 a gallon of milk Saturday.” “I think we’ll just stay close to home this summer.” “Did you know it costs nearly $10,000 a year to attend college?” “How are people going to afford to live?” The voices are calm, almost too quiet. They seem to infer, maybe, if we don’t talk about it too loudly, everything will go back to the way it was before. NOT! Two dollar a gallon gas is a thing of the past. Groceries are going to cost more. Road trips, like those of the Mother Road lore, are history for most families. This means, sticking your head in the sand is not an option unless you want your behind exposed and windburned. Just last week, two major franchise groups with connections to Claremore announced they would be closing stores. American Airlines, a major payroll mainstay for this area, is bracing for around 6,000 in job cuts. The roller coaster of economic upturns and downturns is nothing new. We will survive. But, that doesn’t make it any easier for those who find themselves on the ride with no safety net. As the Killer Beaz says, if you haven’t already, it’s probably time to “Save up!”
