Wilbur David Vancil

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Wilbur David Vancil will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church.  David passed away on Feb. 6, 2014.  He was 53.

David was born in Tulsa, Okla. on March 28, 1960 to Wilbur and Patricia (Page) Vancil. David attended high school in Simi Valley California where he played baseball. His younger brother, Phillip, was the bat boy for his team and David taught Phillip how to play the game. Phillip’s goal was to have the same amount of trophies that his big brother David had.

On Oct. 19, 1985 David married Chris Loidice in a California ceremony. Their union was blessed with two children. David was a supportive father, coaching his son’s baseball team for many years and being the loud father on the sideline cheering his son along. He supported his daughter by attending her dance recitals and teaching her to ride a bike for the first time.  David’s nieces and nephews also loved their uncle and benefitted from his generous and loving nature. David’s affection for his family was evident in the way he always wanted to be the last one to say “I love you.”

A fun loving person, David enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing and back packing. He shared his love of fishing with his son and even got a little jealous when Broc out-fished him for the first time. David liked motor cross and riding motorcycles. His siblings would refer to him as somewhat of a daredevil but provided them with many humorous stories.  One such story, involved David and a few of his friends riding their motorcycles through their high school campus during lunch, which landed them all in a bit of trouble.

In 2006 David moved to Claremore to take care of his parents. He was the full-time caregiver for both his parents always trying to put their needs before his own. He gave everything he had to give to them.  When his mother’s health caused her to become confined to her bed, David being the attentive caregiver, could be found sleeping at the foot of her bed.

This loving brother, father and grandfather will be missed by all whose lives he touched. David is survived by his daughter Natalie Culver and husband Andrew, son Broc Vancil; grandchildren Aria and Scarlett Culver; sister Lisa White and husband Treg;  brother Phillip Vancil and wife Kim; numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents.  As David would say to his family, “I love you.”
