County to temporarily close railroad crossing

CLAREMORE —

County Commissioner Dan DeLozier is planning for the temporary closure of one area railroad crossings while BNSF Railway crews complete crossing upgrades.
The crossings located at 4180 Road or Spencer Creek Road will be temporarily closed starting Monday, weather permitting.
Kamie Minor, BNSF representative, reported in May that the railroad would be expanding the rail line between Claremore and Chelsea.
The ongoing construction required the temporary closure of three other crossings.
BNSF’s plan includes double track construction to relieve traffic and provide relief for the main line, which is running at full capacity, according to Minor.
Minor and DeLozier met with citizens in January regarding the project, which originally included the closure of at least one crossing.
Public concern about the possible closure at Reed Road prompted officials to change the plan to include a second line, but no permanent closures.
The Spencer Creek Road crossing will be closed for three days and is expected to reopen Thursday.
