Claremore had 4,000 without power due to the storm

CLAREMORE —

“We were very fortunate,” said Larry Hughes of Claremore Electric.

When the  60 to 80 mph winds blew into Claremore from Tuesday night's storms tree limbs fell and caused electrical outages for about 4,000 Claremore customers, he told the Progress Thursday morning.

Most, if not all, customers had their power restored by 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

“We had two major connectors off, but were able to restore those within a couple of hours,” Hughes said.

Claremore faired much better than the Tulsa metro area.

At the height of the storm, 100,000 AEP-PSO customers in Tulsa were without power.

The utility has called in more than 1,000 workers from the region to assist in restoring power.

AEP-PSO said it will take several days before all power is restored.

Gov. Mary Fallin issued a state of emergency for 35 counties, including Rogers and Tulsa, which allows state agencies provide emergency response and counties to request federal assistance if necessary.
