Commissioners fire Emergency Services Director Anderson

CLAREMORE — Rogers County Commissioners began the new year by terminating the county’s emergency services director.

It was a light agenda, limited to an executive session to discuss the employment of Emergency Management Director Bob Anderson.
Following the executive session, new Commissioner Chair Kirt Thacker moved to terminate Anderson and Commissioner Mike Helm seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously with Commissioner Dan DeLozier also voting with Thacker and Helm.
The legality of the meeting was questioned after the agenda was only posted in one place last week. Normally, the commissioner’s agenda is posted online and in multiple locations in the courthouse.
This week was unusual, however Assistant District Attorney David Iski said it was legally posted.
Discussion was limited during the meeting that primarily featured an executive session.
The commissioners met in executive session for more than an hour.
Thacker asked for Anderson to leave the meeting with Jenny Bentley.
Anderson has served the county for more than 16 years as the Director of Emergency Management. The board would not release the cause for termination for Anderson.
Anderson is not the only employee to receive a pink slip to start the New Year.
Newly installed County Clerk Robin Anderson served in her first meeting Wednesday. She terminated a long-term employee in the clerk’s office Friday, despite the fact she did not officially take office until being sworn in Wednesday. The employees’ position was posted prior to the receipt of his termination letter, according to sources.  No cause was provided for the action.
Elected officials are given the privilege of retaining employees at will when newly elected, however the recent actions have many people questioning the sudden shake up at the courthouse.
In other business E911 trust authority will be meeting this week to discuss plans for the E911 Center.
