Commissioners begin year-end close out plans

CLAREMORE — The holiday countdown has begun as the Rogers County commissioners conduct some end of year business.

Crews will be light throughout the next two weeks as many employees are using left over vacation or personal leave. The commissioners meetings for the next two weeks will be held on Wednesday due to the holiday schedule. The courthouse will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas, which will be the cause of the delay.
On Monday the commissioners had a light agenda approving four utility permits for Rural Water District 2. The work is to be completed on Old Hwy. 33 and within the Carpenter Addition in Inola.
In other business, Commissioner Dan DeLozier continues his plans to build a new shop building for District 1. He received authorization for the issuance of builder’s risk coverage for the project.
The Rogers County Election Board brought fourth several items for disposal and provided an update on voter registrations.
“We are about 500 people short of 50,000 active voters. We currently have a total of 57,000 registered voters,” Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody said.
To conclude the meeting the board received limited comments from the various offices.
The Rogers County Planning Commission has concluded its business for the year, according to Director Larry Curtis. He presented an application for commercial zoning during the meeting, however the Timothy L. Johnson’s application was denied.
Johnson had hoped to run an outdoor power sales and service business from his shop located at his home. The decision came at the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission after citing issues with the comprehensive plan.
There was no new business presented in the meeting, as the Assistant District Attorney David Iski was not present at the meeting.
