Bump repair closes Akin Road

Rogers County District 1 will close Akin Road at 6:30 a.m. today until Friday to repair a bump in the roadway.
The road closure effects areas between South 4190 and 4200 Road in Sequoyah.
Rogers County Commissioner Dan DeLozier’s office is working to get the word out to local schools and residents.
The new Dog Creek bridge was constructed in 2013 and after months, the dirt has settled on the bridge’s approach, according to officials.
There is no issue with the bridge itself and contractors will begin repairs to fix the issue, according to DeLozier.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation is working with DeLozier to correct the settling.
Belk Bridge Inc. worked with DeLozier, ODOT and the Cherokee Nation to build the 130-foot bridge completed in May 2013.
The project took a little more than three years to complete.
The Cherokee Nation gave $1 million, which made the $1,448,599 project possible, according to DeLozier.
ODOT governs bridgework in Oklahoma and has been performing routine inspections, according to DeLozier.
The project was bigger then just fixing an old, outdated bridge because it will helps reduce flooding concerns for the area, he said.
The creek has tied into a singular stream to help prevent future flooding. The roadway and bridge were a safety issue, DeLozier explained.
The minor issue will be corrected and should reopen the road for service in a couple of days, DeLozier said.
