Tis the season for tax payments

CLAREMORE — Tis the season for holiday cheer and gift giving; yet this is also the time of year for property owners to pay annual tax payments.

Many homeowners or other property owners have escrow accounts that pay the yearly tax due to Rogers County.
December 31 is the deadline for tax payments for all property owners, but the option to split payment may be a less familiar to some.
Tax payments can be split into two equal portions, one due in December and the other due by March 31 of the next year, according to officials in the treasurer’s office.
The payments come without penalty when split in this manner.
Those who do not escrow taxes might find it a little easier to spread out the payments, according to Second Deputy Dawn Dicks.
The Treasurer’s Office sends out a tax statement to every property owner in Rogers County.
Each statement details the tax amounts as well as payment options.
As a reminder officials would like to make sure that property owners read both the front and back of the statement. The statements detail different payment options including paying by credit card or check by phone.
The Treasurer’s website at www.rogerscounty.org is a direct link to payment options.
Property owners can pay by check over the phone free of charge by calling the office at (918) 341-3159.
Credit card payments will have a service fee of 2.95 percent with a $1.95 minimum, according to the website. The treasurer’s office is also available for those who would like to pay in person. Office hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The recent tax proposal to place a three percent cap on property tax increases will not be taking affect this year. It will only affect property values on homes that are agricultural or homestead property that is not assessed on the full market value starting in 2013.
Additionally, property owners can file homestead exemptions at anytime, according to Rogers County Assessor Scott Marsh. Marsh also reminds property owners age 65 and over that the senior freeze on property taxes will increase in 2013.
Those individuals that make less that $60,400 can apply to have their property taxes frozen from January 1 thru March 15.
