Claremore sign gets upgrade

The City of Claremore sign, located at 600 S. Lynn Riggs Blvd. (Pizza Hut), will be upgraded, following an agreement between the Claremore Cultural Development Authority (CCDA) and Adventure Signs.
On Monday, CCDA approved the 10-year agreement which calls for bringing the sign up to date with the  new logo for the city at the top.
“The technology (of the current sign) is outdated and there are no new parts available to replace it,” said Ron Burrows, general manager of the Expo Center. “This will be state of the art — something with nice graphics and good color to showcase what we’ve got going on in Claremore.”
The new sign will be 16-feet wide, the same as the current sign, Burrows said, but the screen will be larger and easier to read.
Pizza Hut will maintain their place on the sign.
According to the agreement, “This relationship (with Adventure Signs) would provide the city with free advertising and no sign maintenance costs; and in return, Adventure Signs would retain the rights to 50 percent of the content of the sign, which it would sell in order to fund the project.”
The city will have access to 50 percent of the time available on each board to put out messages and advertise upcoming events.
“The cost to the city is strictly limited to the electricity, and maintenance of sign footprint area, and insurance of the sign. All other costs are those of Adventure Signs,” the agreement states.
Mike Ward, with Adventure Signs,  said the company’s investment will be around $80,000.
“The city will just send us the words they want on it,” he said.
The time period, after the 10 years,  would be set up on a negotiated basis, with the entire sign being in that negotiation, according to the agreement.
In the city council portion of the meeting, the board approved an agreement with Verizon Wireless to lease a portion of the police department parking lot and construct a cellular antenna tower near the present location of the police department’s antenna.
