Rogers County Commissioner Dan DeLozier is planning for the temporary closure of three area railroad crossings while BNSF Railway crews complete crossing upgrades.
The crossings located at South 4050 or Akin Road, South 4160 or Briscoe Road and South 4170 or Reed Road will be temporarily closed, one at a time, for about one week, starting Tuesday or Wednesday, weather permitting.
“I want assure the public the closures will only be temporary as the BNSF Railroad completes the crossing rehabilitation project,” DeLozier said.
DeLozier previously hosted a town hall meeting regarding the proposed plans by BNSF to permanently close one of the crossings.
The project received significant public criticism.
DeLozier did not sign off on plans to close the railroad crossing located at South 4170 Road, prompting a change in plans by BNSF officials.
“We looked at all the options and decided that this option would be safest for the citizens of the county,” DeLozier said.
Kamie Minor, BNSF representative, had reported that the railroad would only move forward with the expansion of the rail line between Claremore and Chelsea.
“At this time, BNSF is moving forward with double track construction plans at the North Reed Road location,” Minor said.
The crossing will have two mainline tracks at the completion of the construction, according to Minor.
The new construction will include upgrades to the existing crossings in the area, resulting in the temporary closures.
