GARDEN PARTY: Will Rogers Park project blooms

CLAREMORE —

The Will Rogers Park project is gaining ground as committee leader Crystal Campbell recently received the first donations for the renovation project.
“What this park can mean for Claremore is not just a place to play, but a place families can go to connect,” Campbell said. “It will help stimulate the economy as people come from out of town to visit the park.”
This week the park will start blooming as the Master Gardener Association of Rogers County starts  planting flowers, she added.
The master gardeners will be creating a teaching garden, the Veterans memorial will be expanded and a deluxe playground will be added, according to Campbell.
Campbell proposed the project to the Claremore City Council a few months ago to create three primary features in the park.
The VFW and park committee will be hosting a dedication ceremony 5 p.m. May 4 in the park.
“We have forgotten the things that make such a huge impact and several Claremore citizens remember the park as children,” Campbell said. “We are trying to return it to the beautiful memories that have been shared with our committee.”
Veterans from the Claremore Veterans Center and a very special guest from the original 1940’s dedication of the park will be in attendance.
“It is a full circle event as we rededicate this park to the community,” Campbell said. “Hopefully, we can bring a great park back to the city. What better way to show people the history of Claremore than by celebrating it thru building this park.”
The new plans will be unveiled at the event and at 6 p.m. the VFW will celebrate their 75th anniversary in Claremore by hosting a dinner and silent auction after the dedication, according to Campbell.
The proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the park project.
The committee is also accepting donations for the park improvements and Campbell is encouraging all citizens to participate.
