The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office recently initiated a new bike patrol within the agency.
Deputies participated in the unit’s first training Wednesday morning with the help of Tulsa County bike patrol officers.
Rogers County deputies will assist Tulsa County at the state fair beginning Saturday.
Investigator Coy Jenkins said the unit offers another valuable and recognizable resource in the event of an emergency, effectively reducing the number of crimes.
The deputies will be able to easily cover events with large amounts of people, including fairs and festivals.
During the training, deputies familiarized themselves with riding the bikes in enclosed areas.
All eight of the bikes were donated to the department by local area businesses.
