No. 1 Jenks fights off No. 6 Owasso

JENKS — No. 6 Owasso gave No. 1-ranked Jenks all they wanted for 24 minutes, but in the end, the Trojans prevailed with a 45-28 victory Friday night in non-conference action.

Owasso led 7-0 in the first quarter on Gabe Neph’s 12-yard touchdown pass to his brother, Cole Neph.

Jenks tied the game at 7-7, moments later, on Cooper Nunley’s 18-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, Jenks got a 2-yard touchdown run by Darwin Thompson to go ahead 13-7.

Owasso, however, countered with Gabe Neph’s 19-yard touchdown run that put the Rams ahead, 14-13.

Matt Cloud’s 3-yard touchdown pass from Nunley sent Jenks into halftime with a 19-14 lead.

The game continued to see-saw back-and-forth in the third quarter with Jenks extending its lead to 27-14 on Steven Parker’s 8-yard touchdown pass from Nunley.

Owasso answered minutes later on Wallace Clay’s 5-yard touchdown run that narrowed the deficit to 27-21.

Then, with midway through the third quarter, Jenks made it 35-21 on Nunley’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Booty.

Owasso continued to rally, cutting the Jenks lead to 35-28 on Clay’s 67-yard touchdown pass from Gabe Neph to end the third quarter.

Jenks, though, finished off the Rams in the fourth quarter with Danny Donley’s 31-yard field goal and Nunley’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Cloud.

Owasso tallied 407 total yards of offense against Jenks.

Gabe Neph completed 20-of-32 passes for 345 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.

Jenks’ Nunley countered with 16-of-24 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions.

Owasso dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
