The Salina Wildcats put the pedal to the metal and never flinched in their non-conference battle on the road Friday night at Chelsea.
Salina built a 28-0 first-half lead and cruised to 48-6 victory over Chelsea.
Cale Backward got the Wildcats’ offense rolling early in the first quarter with a 5-yard touchdown run that gave Salina a 7-0 lead.
Shortly thereafter, Backward tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Underwood to extend Salina’s lead to 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
A 73-yard touchdown run by K. Johnson to open the second quarter and a 1-yard touchdown run by Jon Parsons carried Salina into halftime with a 28-0 lead.
Salina continued to roll through the Chelsea defense in the third quarter, using a 10-yard touchdown run by Bret Fite and a 40-yard touchdown run by Morton to go ahead 41-0.
Chelsea’s Damien McLeod sprinted 70 yards for a touchdown that cut Salina’s lead to 41-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
Salina’s final touchdown came on Kerns’ 15-yard run.
Chelsea dropped to 1-2 on the season and will open District 2A-7 play on Friday, hosting Chouteau-Mazie.
