Traffic court could be more user friendly
Editor
This little note is about “common sense.” You are always hearing the statement about laws to protect the public, it’s not ever about the money involved. It’s always mentioned “to protect the public.”
There was a small column in the Feb. 6, 2008, edition of the Tulsa World that one must give a little recognition to. What I have reference to is the giving a person a citation or traffic ticket because they don’t have their insurance verification with them when they are involved in some kind of traffic stop or fender bender.
One realizes they should have it with them, but there are times when you don’t. You might have your new verification form at home and failed to put it with your papers you carry in your car or your wallet.
Tulsa Municipal Court Judge Dan Crawford let a new rule go into effect this week that allows motorists who actually have insurance at the time of the traffic stop, but failed to have their insurance verification with them at the time, to be allowed to furnish to the court’s Records Department at least 48 hours before their court date and have the ticket automatically dismissed.
Judge Crawford said, “There is no reason for them to miss a half-day’s work simply to come to court and show that they did, in fact, have insurance. This is another example of our user friendly court.”
As far as I’m concerned, Judge Crawford, if there is an award available, surely deserves “the good ole’ boy” awarrd. Maybe our local law enforcement and presiding traffic judge should take note.

Editor,
Mike Reynolds should immediately press impeachment proceedings on Jeff McMahan. These are extremely serious charges, and his circle of friends and business buddies are known criminals. Why should he continue to draw pay from me and everyone else when he has stepped aside and cannot even do his job? That is an absurd situation.
How is the Governor and Attorney General suppose to supervise the auditors office? They are all elective offices with their own duties. How effective would the manager at Lowes be supervising the operations at the Daily Progress?
All citizens should demand competence and honesty from all our elected officials. That should not depend upon your political viewpoint. If your view on corruption depends upon your political view, then you yourself are well on the way to being corrupt.
