I received a phone call from a concerned Zebra fan asking me if I had heard about Claremore Education Association going to enter Claremore Schools athletic teams in the Centennial Conference. This conference is made up of schools at Sapulpa, Stillwater, Sand Springs, Ponca City, Enid and Bartlesville. I will mention a few things that should be considered before making a decision on that matter. 1, Gasoline cost for school buses and fans, wear and additional mileage on buses. 2, More miles for coaches and more time on the road. In most cases, we can count on getting back home much later. 3, All the above will impact fan support. I know it will me, because I will be 81 years old March 28 next year. I limit my travel at night, especially out of town and on long trips. I might add that all the negatives mentioned probably won’t concern the commission members — they are rarely in attendance at home games, almost never attend away games. I entered my kids in Claremore Schools in 1973, approximately 35 years ago. In all this time, I have missed very few away or home games. The Zebras over these years have been very dear to me. I might add camaraderie with parents and fans has made a lot of wonderful friends for me. I might like to add if we are made a member of the Centennial Conference, we are far enough north that you could start thinking about adding Coffeyville and Wichita. Russell E.
