City manager and visitors bureau director thank voters

(Continued)

CLAREMORE —

Support for tourism appreciated

Dear Editor;

Many thanks to Claremore! Thank you, voters, for making your voices heard loud and clear April 5 with approval of the guest tax by more than 73 percent of the vote.

I am truly humbled by such an overwhelming voice. The Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to serve Claremore and the surrounding area by continually promoting the community as a tourist destination. With the passing of Ordinance 2011-1, the additional revenues will allow us to significantly increase our marketing efforts and generate more positive economic impact for our community.

Voters told us they understand this is a positive step for growth in Claremore. The economic impact of an increased number of visitors staying in our hotels, dining in our restaurants, visiting our attractions and events, and shopping in our stores will be seen by an increase in sales taxes, utility usage, and jobs for area residents. Forward thinking is what future developers need to see from city leaders, and the community; and this is a step in the right direction.

I believe that this progressive step for the future tells our area businesses, visitors and the traveling public, future business owners and developers that Claremore is on the map and we are open and ready to do business.

Again, thank you, Claremore. I look forward to our bright future and am proud to tell our story and bring visitors to town to experience what we all know: that Claremore is a great place to live, work, and play.

  • Duty and rest rules for commercial pilots delayed

    Dear Editor,
    I’ve read, with interest, Andy Pasztor’s r article in the 02 August edition of the WSJ on the latest delay in the publication of a final rule to update the decades-old duty and rest rules for most commercial flight operations. It has to be a great challenge to take a complex technical issue and reduce it to understandable terms for a general readership.
