CCVB works behind the scenes

Letter to the editor

CLAREMORE —  Dear Editor,

I would like to thank Tom Pool, Chairman of the Claremore Heritage Museum Committee, for his letter to you on Friday, December 10. In his message, Tom referenced the Claremore Convention & Visitors Bureau (CCVB) as a “tourist information center.” I would like to share the Mission and Vision of the Claremore Convention & Visitors Bureau and provide some clarification as it pertains to our organization.

The CCVB is a non-profit, 501(c)6 organization and we are funded by a four percent lodging tax on all hotel rooms rented within the city limits of Claremore. Our Mission is to promote, market, and service Claremore as a convention and tourist destination by generating overnight stays. Our Vision is to enhance and develop the fabric of the community by soliciting and servicing conventions, other related group business, events, and visitors.

In short, the CCVB is a “behind the scenes” organization; we are out recruiting and promoting all we have to offer visitors. By advertising in travel-related publications like the Oklahoma Travel Guide, by promoting Claremore through participation in travel-related trade shows such as the Wichita Women’s Fair, and by making sales presentations and appointments with professional Tour Operators, Group Leaders, Event Planners, and Convention Coordinators like the American Bus Association’s Marketplace, we recruit visitors from all walks of life to come to Claremore.

We are located inside the Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce building at 419 W. Will Rogers Blvd., and we have one full time employee, the Executive Director. Since most visitors generally look for the local Chamber of Commerce for visitor information, we are fortunate in that our Chamber has a wonderful area in its lobby overflowing with brochures, visitors guides, local maps, and information on local hotels, restaurants, shopping, and attractions. We welcome all visitors, groups, and special events; however, we aren’t considered a “welcome center.”

Any opportunity for a community to add a quality attraction to their tourism inventory is a win-win for everyone. We are here to promote all we have to offer, including our past, present, and future tourism partners. Our goal is simply to bring folks to town, improve the economic fabric of our community by these visitors spending their money here, and then wish them well and always invite them back.
