Four stores fail compliance checks By Tom Fink CLAREMORE DAILY PROGRESS January 7, 2009 — Three Claremore convenience stores and one liquor store sold alcohol to an underage operative last week in a citywide compliance check, according to Claremore police.
Clerks at Quick Mart at 211 W. 1st Street, Kum & Go North on Lynn Riggs, O.D.’s Faststop at 1101 West Blue Starr and Pit Stop Liquor at 735 East Will Rogers sold alcohol to an undercover youth, working in conjunction with the Claremore Police officers. “Of the four cases involving sale of alcohol to a minor, one of the clerks did ask for identification but was confused about the date, while the other three did not ask for any identification whatsoever,” said Officer Doug Woodward, Claremore Police Department. In each case of illegal sale of alcohol, no arrests were made but the offending store clerks received municipal citations and in the case of the liquor store, the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement (ABLE) Commission will be reviewing the case. “For a liquor store to sell alcohol to a minor, it’s a felony, rather than a misdemeanor as it is in the cases of the convenience stores,” Woodward said. “It’s feasible that they could make the decision to suspend their liquor license.” Other businesses involved in the compliance check that did not sell alcohol to a minor were Kum & Go (east), Quik & Easy, Smitty’s, AJ’s Fastop, Citgo (on Will Rogers), Kwick Mart, QuikTrip, Bottle Shack Liquor Store, and Spirits of 66. Amy Langley with the “2 Much 2 Lose” program designed to assist young people in developing a plan to prevent underage drinking assisted Claremore Police in their compliance check.
