January 20, 2009

Among the estimated three million people crowded near the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday morning for the inauguration of Barack Obama was Rogers County resident Cara Cowan Watts and her husband, Doug.

Watts is the Will Rogers District councilwoman for the Cherokee Nation and is part of a large delegation from the tribe attending the in events.

“I am extremely excited about the new administration,” Cowan told The Progress as she waited to enter the standing room only section of the event.

While most of the events were very well organized, she said getting into the viewing areas was less organized.

“Overall, people are being very cooperative,” she said

She and her husband attended the Oklahoma Inaugural Event on Sunday. Among the festivities was the Hard Rock Seminole Pre-Inaugural Ball.

Many officials from Oklahoma also are in attendance at the event.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden were sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States.
