Top tax delinquencies published
New law expected to aid in tax collections

A handful of local businesses are included on the top 100 Tax Delinquencies report published on the Oklahoma Tax Commission web site Nov. 9. The listing of the Top 100 Tax Delinquencies is composed of persons and or businesses who owe delinquent taxes, including interest, penalties, fees and costs in excess of $25,000 which are unpaid for more than 90 days and for which a tax warrant has been filed.

As of Nov. 1 the tax delinquent list began to be published according to recent state legislation. Oklahoma lawmakers followed precedent set by other states in an attempt to collect money due to the state by requiring OTC to publish information regarding the largest uncollected tax liabilities owed to Oklahoma and its citizens.

According to Debbie Liles, Supervisor of the Tax Warrants Section, the Top 100 Delinquencies report is updated daily.

Prior to information being posted on the web, several attempts are made to contact the taxpayer regarding these debts.

“The tax liens are public information. They are notified,” said Liles.

Before the information is published on the web site, the delinquent party is notified by letter and given 90 days to respond.

Local businesses on the list include:

• Buy Rite Foods Inc. located at 108 W 1st Owasso owes $ 694,898.05 in sales tax

• Skyy Productions, Inc at 18302 S Hwy 88 Claremore, owes income tax in the amount of $ 629,636.38

• Dosch, David H. of D & D Grocery in Oologah owes $ 568,649.70 in sales tax

The current amount of tax, penalty, and interest due may differ from the judgment amount as a result of partial payments and/or accrual of additional penalty and interest. This listing is updated on a daily basis, as necessary.

“In my opinion, we have issued more tax liens lately. It could be because of the economy,” said Liles.

Last year a clean slate was offered where the taxpayer could pay taxes and interest and penalties were waived.

“If they didn’t respond, their delinquent penalties were doubled,” said Liles. “That caused some of the taxes owed to increase.”

The delinquent list can also be viewed on the Oklahoma State Finance web site.
