Driver applies gas instead of brakes, causes 3-vehicle crash

CLAREMORE — According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 75-year-old Claremore man is in critical condition after his motorcycle was rear-ended Sunday by a driver who said he mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brakes.

Laverne Webb was taken to a Tulsa hospital with internal injuries, OHP report stated.

The collision ocurred just before 9 a.m. near County Rd. 380 and 412 in Rogers County.

Thomas Boone, 76, Bixby, told troopers that when he saw traffic stopped, he prepared to stop his 2012 Dodge truck and instead of hitting the brakes, he hit the accelerator, according to OHP.

Boone struck Webb’s motorcycle from behind, Webb struck a pickup driven by Jeremy Colvard of Claremore, 32, the report said.

Colvard was driving with three passengers, Jennifer Colvard, 33, and two 7-year-old boys.  None of whom were injured.

Carolyn Henderson of Tulsa, 70, Boone’s passenger was not injured.

According to OHP, all occupants in both pickups were wearing seat belts and Webb was wearing a helmet.
